When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. Luke 5 : 8 - 10Readings this week Isaiah 6 : 1 - 8; 1 Corinthians 15 : 1 - 11; Luke 5 : 1 - 11Thought for this weekWe all have our ways of doing things. Maybe ways we’ve learnt work best over time. Maybe just ways we prefer to do things. The fishermen Jesus meets in our Gospel reading had their ways of catching fish. Yet as Jesus meets them they have been fishing all night without success. There is a weariness in them. Yet Jesus knows these are the people He will call to tell the world about Himself. To proclaim the Good News of salvation and new. But first they need to encounter Jesus’ power and love. They need to be changed by Jesus and themselves made new. Maybe we have a weariness in our lives. Life can become overwhelming. Or even just plain routine. Maybe even our faith and worship can become weary. Maybe we ourselves need to be made new for the first time. It is encountering Jesus that makes all the difference. Can we stop, pause, spend time, listen today in the presence of Jesus who reaches out to us, who longs to speak into our lives, to renew us and make us new?It is about our expectations. Today let’s meet with Jesus anew. The Lord who has come to set us free. Rev PaulPrayer for this weekO God, you know us to be set in the midst of so many and great dangers, that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always stand upright: grant to us such strength and protection as may support us in all dangers and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, AmenLord of the hosts of heaven, our salvation and our strength, without you we are lost: guard us from all that harms or hurts and raise us when we fall; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AmenPeople to pray forThose who work at night to help and serve us, often without us knowingThose who provide for us in sometimes dangerous conditionsThose working for peace in the world, that they may persevere

My eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel Luke 2 : 30 – 32Readings this week Malachi 3 : 1 - 5; Hebrews 2 : 14 - end; Luke 2 : 22 - 40Thought for this weekIt is always a special moment for new parents to present their new – born. For each of us, whoever we are, a relative, a friend, or a complete stranger, it is a privilege to meet a new born child for the first time, a whole new person, an identity to be revealed, a new life full of possibilities. This moment of encounter of Jesus being brought into the Temple is captured for us by the Gospel writer.A moment of sensitivity, pride, maybe even trepidation for Mary and Joseph. Simeon has been brought by the Holy Spirit to be present. Anna is present through her faithfulness and life of prayer. Both encounter Jesus in a moment of revelation, of patience rewarded, of real joy.So much of our time is filled each day with the details of living, the lists and tasks that so easily preoccupy us.We each need the Holy Spirit to guide us into times of holy encounter, of patience, of being in the right time, that are miracles in our lives.Jesus comes to each of us day by day. May we be open to these moments of encounter, to be filled with awe, and be changed. Rev PaulPrayer for this week - A blessingThe world is now too dangerous and too beautiful for anything but loveMay your eyes be so blessed you see God in everyone.Your ears, so you hear the cry of the poor.May your hands be so blessed that everything you touch is a sacrament.Your lips, so you speak nothing but the truth with love.May your feet be so blessed you run to those who need you.And may your heart be so opened, so set on fire, that your love, Your love, changes everything. From the Black Rock Prayer BookPeople to pray forFor new parentsFor those waiting for hopeFor all our congregations, that our worship and faith may deepen
