Join us for a weekly lunch of delicious homemade soup, bread and fruit in the Reading Room, Old Road, Buckland, RH3 7EG. Everyone is welcome.
Money raise from the Lent Lunches will be sent to the Bishop's Lent Call for 2025 which is raising funds for projects that help children and young people recover from trauma and which encourage their mental wellbeing. Funds raised are used to support this type of work in the Diocese of Jerusalem, the Middle East, Link Dioceses in Zimbabwe and here in the Southwark diocese itself.

St Mary’s Church, Buckland

Welcome to the Parish church of St Mary the Virgin, Buckland.  We are a small worshipping community that gathers in the attractive village church situated at the centre of Buckland village. We are Eucharistic focused with a strong sense of tradition . We are a united benefice with our sister church, St Michael’s Betchworth.   Buckland services occur here on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month.   The service on the second Sunday is usually a service in the 'Iona-style', a contemplative tradition.  The church is open everyday to pray, sit quietly or simply to have a look round.Our services are supported by a joint robed choir and organ.  

After our Sunday services we have refreshments and a time to catch up with old friends and to meet new ones.  We’re a warm and supportive community, and welcome anyone, regardless of their life circumstances, beliefs or questions.  

In the short-term (as of July 2026), our Rector is on long-term sick leave, and our volunteer Churchwardens are co-ordinating church services, weddings, funerals and memorial services. If you are new to the church or parish please do introduce yourselves to one of our wardens,  David Sayce or Liz Vahey. We would love to meet you.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Buckland is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm.

We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Southwark’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO (see link below)

Key Steps to Follow in different circumstances:

Immediate Danger: Call 999 straight away if a child or adult is at immediate risk of harm or requires urgent medical attention.
Non-Emergency Concerns: Pass the information on immediately to your local Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO) or the Vicar to seek guidance.
If the PSO or Vicar is Involved: If your concern involves the Parish Safeguarding Officer or the Vicar, you should bypass them and contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team at the Diocese of Southwark directly.
