Weaving Stories is an exciting art and heritage project led by Bradford Cathedral as part of our contribution to the UK City of Culture 2025, with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Through a loom installation in the Cathedral, we will invite local communities to co-create a breathtaking new tapestry, weaving together the rich, shared stories of Bradford's wool trade—a heritage deeply embedded in the city's diverse, global communities. The loom will be accompanied by a special 'sound tapestry': a recorded collection of voices and stories.

This project is about more than preserving history; it's about bringing people together. By taking part, you will help safeguard an at-risk heritage craft, learn new skills, and build lasting connections with one of Bradford's most significant cultural spaces.

The completed tapestry will then go on display in the Cathedral after a launch event on St. Blaise Day, Tuesday 3rd February 2026.

There will be an official launch on Saturday 10th May at 3pm.

Step into a spellbinding neoclassical programme that leads audiences on a luminous journey through emotion and awe.

Featuring the visionary works of Hans Zimmer, Ludovico Einaudi, and Max Richter, this concert blends cinematic grandeur, minimalist clarity, and haunting melodic nuance.

Zimmer's expansive compositions, like "Cornfield Chase" from Interstellar, conjure the vastness of space, while Einaudi's delicate piano-driven pieces, such as "Petrichor", invite quiet reflection. Richter's poignant "Sofa Chess" and the ethereal "Infra 4" interlace timeless restraint with contemporary texture.

Together, these composers shape a sonic cosmos — where orchestral detail meets atmospheric depth, offering listeners a chance to dwell in the infinite sounds of the universe.

This year we are focussing on female stained glass and textile designers whose work appears in Bradford Cathedral.

We will be running pop-up information points during the day, looking at the Louisa Pesel altar frontal; the Morris & Co. altar frontal, Polly Meynell's altar frontals, the wall hangings in St. Aidan's Chapel created by Patricia Porter, and the stained glass windows in the music wing by Moira Forsyth. There will be a self-guided tour available, as well as a general tour and a specialist tour relating to the female designers, each taking place at 12:15pm and 2:15pm.

Alongside these there will be children's activities, refreshments at the Pop-Up Café and a talk at 1pm by Helen Elletson from the William Morris Society about May Morris.

Talk: ‘A Remarkable Woman’: The Extraordinary Life and Career of May Morris (Helen Mary Elletson)
Overshadowed for many years by her more famous father, May Morris is now beginning to gain the recognition she deserves as being an incredibly talented craftswoman in her own right. Teacher, lecturer, editor, jeweller and designer, May was accomplished in a wide range of crafts, but it is her work as an embroiderer that is considered to be her greatest achievement. May’s knowledge of needlework, her talent for designing and her brilliance with the needle led to raising the status of embroidery to fine art. This talk will cover May’s life and work, with a focus on her beautiful designs and completed embroideries, demonstrating why May should be regarded as one of the most significant artists of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
