St Nicholas Chapel

St. Nicholas Chapel is a living part of our church community. The Chapel hosts one service on the fourth Sunday of each month.

Weddings can booked at the Chapel if you prefer something a little more intimate.

Coggeshall Abbey and the gatehouse Chapel of St Nicholas were founded by King Stephen and built by Cistercian monks in the twelfth century. Adjacent to the river Blackwater, the chapel is accessed along Abbey Lane - an unmade private road just to the south of Coggeshall.

Following the dissolution of the monasteries in the sixteenth century, all the remains of the original abbey, including a small part of the cloister, is now incorporated into a farmhouse and outbuildings in use today.
