New Vicar Appointed Fr. Grant Bolton-Debbage
My name is Fr Grant and I am very excited and blessed to have been called to become the new vicar of All Saints Hatcham Park! I am really looking forward to meeting everybody and seeing where God will take us in this new season of the church’s life.
I thought it would be good for you to know a little more about me and about where I have come from and so I have compiled a few things for you.
I am 33 years old and I was born and brought up in Norfolk with my mother and my two brothers. Sadly, my father died whilst I was rather young. After leaving school in Norfolk, I read theology at the University of Durham and upon completion of my degree I then became a children’s minister in North West London. Alongside that, I worked as a Pensions Administrator.
I first felt called to the Priesthood when I was about six years old and this calling grew during my teenage years and beyond.
I trained for ordination at Ripon College, Cuddesdon in Oxford and I was ordained deacon in 2014 and priest in 2015. I served my curacy in the parish of Great Yarmouth, on the Norfolk Coast. A wonderful and vibrant coastal town albeit with many issues around lack of aspiration and some areas of serious economic deprivation. During my time here, I became college chaplain to the local further education college and chaired the committee which ran our outreach programme for the homeless.
Most recently, I have been serving as Assistant Priest in the Parish of Holy Trinity and St Saviour, Upper Chelsea and I have had the joy of being involved in many community activities and outreach programmes.
I enjoy music and I love to sing and play the piano (albeit at a low level). I particularly love blues and gospel music although my music taste is very eclectic. I love to see people flourish and I enjoy life when others are enjoying life!
I am looking forward to being with you in New Cross. I have family in the area and at this time of change and transition in New Cross and the surrounding areas, I look forward to playing my part in ensuring the continuation of the vibrancy and beacon of light that I know All Saint’s to be!
With love and blessings, Fr Grant
