Holy Communion for the 6th Sunday of Easter: celebrant the Revd Adetola Badejo.

First reading: Acts 17: 22-31
Gospel: John 14: 15-21

Both our readings this Sunday focus on the closeness of God to his people.

In our Gospel reading we find out that God will give his spirit to those that love him. Jesus says that he will come to us and that he will dwell within us. In Acts 17 the Apostle Paul explains that God does not live in man-made buildings, but it is in God that we live and have our being and that he is 'not far from any one of us'. Jesus says that he will not leave us as orphans and Paul says that we are God's 'offspring'. The message is consistent that we do not worship a distant, uncaring God. He is not the UNKNOWN GOD of the the Athenians but a Father in heaven, a beloved friend in Jesus, and an advocate in the Holy Spirit.
