Getting here

Saint Leonard's serves a friendly and welcoming congregation in the Frankley parish and the church is located in a surprisingly pretty rural setting despite being surrounded by large Birmingham estates. It is very old, tracing its origins back to 1087 with many old features remaining. In the churchyard there is a stone cross and the base is said to date from Saxon times. Christians have worshipped here for generations and countless people have celebrated the greatest moments of their lives here.

Saint Leonard's is very popular for weddings and baptism services. So that families and couples are properly prepared we expect to get to know them in our Sunday worship first. We have interviews to arrange these special events on Wednesday evenings at 7.00pm to 8.15pm in the church hall which is next door.

This is quite a small church seating a about 110 people, and it is cosy and comfortable. It is easy to see why it is considered an attractive venue for weddings, Blessings and Renewal of Vows. We have a professional organist who offers music of a consistently excellent standard and we also have a very skilled and enthusiastic group of flower arrangers who really come into their own when there is a Christian festival.

Our services follow the pattern of Church of England worship and include both formal and informal elements within a structured framework. We have a balance of new and old music and an ambience of worshipful reverence and challenging preaching.

Our members take their part in the spiritual llife of the church and its busy social programme. They are also prominent in helping the church link with the wider community especially through our church infant school at Holly Hill which we share with the Methodist Church. Regular Messy Church events take place there for families from across the estate and beyond.

The churchyard at St Leonard's is beautifully kept and provides an oasis of quiet tranquility for the many visitors who come to pray, recollect or just sit where generations have been before them.

It would make a great place for a church quiet day with the practical facilities next door in the new church hall and excellent parking available and no difficulties for wheelchair users or other disabilities.
