Heating Fundraising Campaign

What?

The current heating in the church is comprised of two gas boiler and radiators. In 2020 one of these boilers was condemned and we’ve been running on just one since then. During this time we’ve been exploring various options of the best way to heat the church.

The PCC have elected to remove the gas heating system and install electric radiators.

Why?

The PCC discerned God’s call on our lives to be good stewards of the earth’s resources was paramount in this decision. A heating committee was formed and looked at the options, in consultation with the Diocese. Electric radiant was found to be the best system for our building. The new heating system will be more efficient and has the capacity to run on renewable energy. In the longer term this is a better option for God’s planet and church.

How?

The installation is taking several stages. Before anything happened we needed an up to date asbestos report, this took place in September 2022 and asbestos was removed. A faculty (permission to make changes to the church building) was needed to go ahead with the work, which was granted in the summer of 2023. The next stage is for the electric supply need to be improved, this is now in motion. After this we’ll proceed with the removal of the gas boilers, pipes and radiators, followed by the installation of the radiators. We hope this work will be completed by the autumn of 2024. The PCC will continue to work on heat loss aids, such as a heat screen over the doors and secondary glazing on some windows.

How much?

The cost to carry out all the work entailed is £64,000.00.

We’re committed to continue to welcome all to a warm and comfortable building for Sunday worship, special services, weddings, baptisms, funerals, school visits and concerts for many, many more years. To enable us to do this we need to raise funds to pay for this new heating system.

The church building will only be able to continue to serve the community if we raise money for this as our current outgoings exceed our income.

The PCC is committed to ensuring St Hilda’s is there for future generations so we are asking for your support, however small or large.
