Church Open for Heritage Open Day

Occurring
for 3 hours
Venue
St John’s Church, Wakefield
Address
Wentworth Street/ St. John’s Square Wakefield, WF1 2QU, United Kingdom

St John’s church has a story to tell. It is a ‘treasure house’ of heritage, history & community. Inside the church and in the churchyard are carvings in stone and marble from the late 18th century. Old wall paintings, tombs, monuments and stained glass to discover. Not all built in the same period style, trace the patchwork of St John’s architectural history from 1795 to present day. St John’s Church also reveals the evolution of English culture, religion, local heritage, family history and stories of individual achievements, art and craftsmanship.

Spend some time in nature in the churchyard. Take a peaceful moment to enjoy the light-filled space inside the church. Learn something new about the building and it’s community. Spend time in the cafe, speak with our volunteers or watch a film of the church building tour.
