In recent weeks we have received a number of reports from individuals concerned that flowers placed on the graves of loved ones have been pulled from vases, flower heads removed and stems strewn about. We want to reassure everyone who visits the Churchyard that this is not the work of vandals or the mower, but the local wildlife. Visitors to the Churchyard have observed an increase in Muntjac Deer foraging in the area, as well as Grey Squirrels pulling stems from vases and removing flower heads. Given the beautiful country side that surrounds the Churchyard, that makes it such a tranquil resting place, there is little we can do. Please know that we understand that this experience can be upsetting for families. Our Church is open every day from 9am to 5pm, if you would rather light a candle at this time. Other matters: We have seen an increase in the use of artificial flowers during recent hot weather. Now that the temperatures are cooler, we ask that these are removed by the Sunday 4th October given artificial flowers are routinely not permitted in the Churchyard. Following an interview on Tuesday 14th July, we are delighted to announce that Revd Melissa Carter has been appointed as 0.5 Part-Time Vicar of Renhold and 0.5 Part-Time Chaplain to Bedford School. As our Vicar, she will lead the ministry and mission of the Church as we go forward together. Melissa would like to share the following words: “I am thrilled to be joining you soon as your new vicar. I was made to feel so welcome on my interview day, I am looking forward to ministering and worshipping alongside you and getting to know the wider community. The heart of my ministry has very much been pastoral and children’s ministry, so I am very keen to get to know the local school and families and support you in developing your children, young people and families services and events. I am quite a contemplative person and I feel most spiritually connected with God in nature so the beautiful surroundings of Renhold will be a real blessing to me and my guide dog, Taylor. I will be moving up with my husband, Antony, and our other dog and three cats. I look forward to getting to know you all and may God bless us as we step together into this new chapter that he has planned for us”. Melissa will be licensed on Wednesday 25th November (7:30pm) at All Saints, Renhold by the new Bishop of St Albans.
