St Mary's Church is a beautiful building, but not the easiest to access, or get around, for anyone with mobility issues. The PCC hope to solve this, making the building both more accessible - and warm! - and more adaptable for use by the community, with an ambitious vision for its future.
The hope is that we can raise the main floor of the nave, and introduce a gently ramp down to it from the porch door. Underfloor heating can be installed under the new floor, and moveable pews or seats could be installed to make the space more flexible, allowing a wider range of uses for the community.
Any work on such an ancient building has to be carried out sensitively and in consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and authorities and this consultation is already under way.
The aim is to make the church a warm and accessible place of worship and a community asset at the heart of the village.
