St John the Baptist, Cottered
Welcome to our beautiful ancient church of St John the Baptist, Cottered. We are one of the five parishes that form the United Benefice of Ardeley, Benington, Cottered, Throcking and Walkern.
Unfortunately the church is currently closed until further notice as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Our news page will be updated as and when the situation changes. Thank you!
Our Reader, Dr Barry Price, organises a virtual Benefice Service by Zoom at 11am on the 1st Sunday in each month, with members of Ardeley, Benington and Throcking all participating and we are occasionally joined by Walkern. Since the start of the pandemic Dr Price has also written and distributed a weekly "In Fellowship" newsletter to keep worshippers in touch with each other and what we is happening in the parish. If you would like to receive "In Fellowship", please contact a churchwarden (see the "Get In Touch" section for contact details).
Since our Rector retired in October 2019, Dr Price has provided all services, pastoral care and spiritual support to Cottered and Throcking parishes. St Albans Diocese is currently advertising for a new priest, who will come and live in our small rural village and minister to all five of our Benefice parish communities.
We look forward to welcoming you again soon!
The parish of Cottered is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. The Diocese of St.Albans’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information, including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor, who advise our Parish Safeguarding Officer. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
