Weekly News - 2nd July 2023

This weekend’s Bible readings:

10.30: Romans 6:19-23 (p 1133) Matthew 10:40-42 (p 976)

Welcome:

This morning we welcome Oliver, Yasmin and Josie and their family and friends. The three will be baptised during our 10.30 service.

Alpha Course:

We will be joining in with the Alpha Course in Thorley on Wednesdays from 13th September. Please pray about this and especially if you can invite anyone along. We hope that we will be able to take a group from our benefice. Please speak to John for more information.

Knit & Natter group:

If you like knitting or crocheting, come and join us for a couple of hours in the Sargant room at the back of Standon village hall at 2pm, usually on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Tea & cakes will be available. Our next meeting will be on Thursday 13th July 2023. For more information please contact Diane on 01920 821130 or Marion on 01920 745683.

Games morning at the Boot:

Due to such a low attendance, the Games morning at the Boot has now been cancelled. Thank you to those who attended and enjoyed it once a month.

Dane End village fete:

Thank you to all those who helped last Saturday at our crockery smash stall. Also, thank you to Dave for supplying and erecting the gazebo; we definitely needed it on such a hot day! The stall was a huge success, children and adults queueing to have a go at smashing the crockery. We were able to chat to lots of families, both those we already knew and those we didn’t. We collected about £145 towards the roof fund which was a bonus to the day.

Midweek Music at St Mary’s:

Thank you to all who supported this month’s midweek concert at St Mary’s. It was a record audience, and £300 was raised for the church.

Occasional helpers sought for Lagoons:

Our Bible study group for older young people runs on Wednesdays from 5.30 to 6.30, led by Red Balloon. Lizzy is usually there as the ‘second adult’, but there are some Wednesdays when she can’t make it. If you would be willing to join a small list of people willing to step in when she can’t be there, please speak to her.

FOSM Safari Supper 14th July:

Two tickets remain for this year’s Safari Supper. The supper will be served at various locations in Standon, and tickets are £35, to include wine, available from Diana.

Holiday Bible Club 29th August to 1st September, 10.00 until 3.00:

We are starting to assemble the team to support this year’s holiday Bible club and the publicity is going out to schools etc in the next week or so. The theme will be Jonah, linking each part of Jonah’s story with gospel stories. We’ll need people to help with leading groups, preparing refreshments and setting up and clearing craft activities. If you’d like to know more or to volunteer, please speak to Caroline. And if you know any children who might come along, please spread the word! Fliers will be available very soon.

Website:

Our benefice website is on the www.achurchnearyou.com platform. The benefice page can’t currently be reached but you can find the three churches individually by going to https://www.achurchnearyou.com/church/7825/ and clicking the links there.
