About Us

Welcome to St Mary’s

St Mary’s is a beautiful and historic church building, and home to a welcoming and growing community. Everyone is warmly invited to join us at any of our services or events. Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, returning to church after many years, or are already part of a church community, you will be very welcome here.

Join the Adventure: Discover Jesus, Grow Together, Share His Love.

We are a church on an adventure with Jesus. Together we are learning to discover who He is, grow in faith and friendship, and share His love and Good News in our homes, schools, workplaces, and neighbourhood.

We would love to welcome you.

Services

Our services on a Sunday are as follows:

First, Second, Third and Fifth Sundays of the Month

10am Service of Holy Communion

This service includes Holy Communion, a time when we remember the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The service follows a familiar pattern used in many Church of England churches and includes traditional hymns as well as some more modern songs.

The service lasts around an hour and a quarter, and includes a talk (about 20 minutes) exploring a passage from the Bible and what it might mean in everyday life. Occasionally, we also hear from someone sharing a personal story about how their faith has made a difference in their life.

Second Sunday of the Month

10am Service of Holy Communion - as above.

Together @ 4

Together @ 4 happens at 4pm in the hall of St Mary’s CE Primary School, Church Lane.

This is a relaxed, welcoming event for all ages – whether you’ve been to church before or not. It’s designed to be easy to join in with, family-friendly, and a chance to explore big questions about life, hope, and purpose through Bible stories, drama, music, and fun activities that focus on the message of Jesus.

There’s something for everyone – children, parents, grandparents, and friends – and it’s a great way to meet others in the school and local community. We finish with free refreshments, including tea, coffee, and some wonderful cakes, giving time to chat and get to know one another.

No pressure, no dress code – just come as you are. Whether you’re curious, looking for community, or just fancy something a bit different on a Sunday afternoon, you’ll be very welcome.

Fourth Sunday of the Month

8am Service of Holy Communion

This is a quiet, reflective early morning service where we take time to remember and reflect on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. There is no music or singing, and a short talk of about fifteen minutes explores a passage from the Bible and what it might mean in everyday life.

The service lasts around 50 minutes, offering a peaceful way to start the day. Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to church or simply looking for a calm and thoughtful start to your morning.

10am All Age Worship

Our All Age Worship is a friendly and informal service for everyone – children, young people, and adults. The service includes a short talk that explores a story or passage from the Bible and what it might mean in everyday life.

There is music, singing, and opportunities to join in together, and we often include activities or stories that make it easy for children and families to take part.

The service lasts around an hour, and everyone is welcome, whether you are new to church, visiting with family, or just curious to see what it’s like.

Refreshments after 10am services

Refreshments are served in the St Mary’s Centre, providing a relaxed opportunity to chat and get to know others in the community. Everyone is very welcome to stay, whether this is your first visit or you’ve been coming for years.

Weddings and Baptisms

If you’re thinking about getting married at St Mary’s, having your Banns of Marriage called, or arranging a baptism for your child or yourself, the best first step is simply to come along to one of our Sunday services and introduce yourself.

We’d love to meet you, answer any questions, and help you take the next steps in a relaxed and welcoming way.
