The third annual "Summer Institute" for CofE clergy and laity, run by the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations (DECR) and the Ss Cyril and Methodius School of Post-Graduate Studies, took place from 17th to 26th September. This year's group, led by Bishop Jonathan Goodall, started their trip in St Petersburg, visiting the Theological Academy where they learned about the modern martyrs and had tea with the Rector (see photo). After St Petersburg, they moved on to Valaam Monastery for several days before heading down to Moscow to stay at the Danilovsky Monastery and, at the end of their trip, visit St Andrew's Anglican Church for an evening service at which Bishop Goodall presided and Canon Hugh Wybrew preached.
Congratulations to Canon Malcolm Rogers, Chaplain of St Andrew's Anglican Church, Moscow, on his licensing as Area Dean of Russia and Ukraine in the Diocese in Europe. The licensing, by the Bishop in Europe, the Rt Revd Dr Robert Innes, took place in Church House chapel in London on 19th June.As well as the Anglican Church in St Petersburg and St Andrew's, Moscow, Canon Rogers now also has oversight of the Anglican community in Kyiv, Christ Church, which meets at 3pm every Sunday in St Catherine's German Lutheran Church.
Museum Night 2019 this year runs from 18:00 on Saturday 18th May until 06:00 on Sunday 19th May and the Petrikirche, where the Anglican Church in St Petersburg holds its 4pm Sunday services, will be taking part and putting on special 45 minutes tours of the church, and in particular of its crypt & catacombs, on the hour from 18:00 to 22:00 and from 02:00 to 05:00.
