PIANO RECITAL - Beethoven, Mozart and Chopin Sunday 26 April 2026, 17:00 at St. John’s Church Territet

Sophie Leacacos, of Russian and Welsh descent, began her musical studies at the age of 4 with pianist and composer LaSalle Spier (then aged 60), her sole professor of piano. She gave her first public recital at the age of 15, at the prestigious Phillips Gallery in Washington, D.C. As a classical interpreter, Mme Leacacos is the inheritor of the most distinguished European musical tradition: LaSalle Spier was a student of pianist and composer Rafael Joseffy, himself a student of Franz Liszt.

Mme. Leacacos taught at Wesleyan University (Connecticut) and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was awarded a doctoral fellowship in musicology and philosophy. In association with the Cleveland Orchestra and the Cleveland Institute of Music, she was the organizer and first executive director of the Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition, now known as the Cleveland Competition.

From 2006 to 2015 Mme Leacacos lived in Shanghai, China, where she gave masterclasses for Steinway and Fazioli, as well as concerts to raise money for the foundation Heart to Heart Shanghai.

A Swiss citizen, Mme Leacacos has given many public conerts for the benefit of Swiss charities, and continues to teach piano privately.

St John's, Territet-Montreux

St. John's in Territet-Montreux is an English-speaking Anglo-Catholic community nestled in the heart of the Swiss Riviera. Within sight of the Château de Chillon, Territet is a place steeped in history – it lies along the ancient pilgrim's road to Rome, a path once walked by the four-year-old Alfred the Great and, two centuries later, by King Canute himself, both making their way to the alpine passes into Italy.

Every Sunday, we joyfully celebrate the Sung Eucharist in a church beloved for its architectural beauty, its exceptional acoustics, its choir, and the rare privilege of an organ now approaching 150 years of age – one of the finest and rarest instruments of its kind in Switzerland.

All are welcome to join us to encounter the goodness of God in prayer, and to share in the journey of coming to know Jesus Christ.
