The west end of the Green is set for a green transformation on Saturday, January 17, thanks to a collaborative effort between local residents and regional conservation experts.
The All Saints’ Eco-Group has announced a community-wide planting event, running from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, designed to boost local biodiversity and enhance the aesthetic appeal of the neighbourhood's shared outdoor spaces.
A Partnership for Nature
The project is made possible through funding from the NE Community Forest, which has provided approximately 25 native British trees for the site.
Organizers emphasized that the project has been carefully designed to balance ecological benefits with community utility. While the new trees will create vital habitats for local wildlife, the layout ensures that ample open space remains for traditional outdoor activities and recreation.
A Growing Legacy of Conservation
This initiative is the latest in a string of successful environmental projects spearheaded by the All Saints’ congregation. Many members are active contributors to regional organizations, including the Natural History Society of Northumbria (NHSN) and the Wildlife Trust.
Past successes for the group include:
The "Bug Hotel" Project: A youth-led initiative to support pollinator populations.
Community Bat Walks: Recent educational evenings exploring local nocturnal ecosystems.
Event Details
Neighbours and families are encouraged to join the effort on the morning of the 17th. To keep spirits high and volunteers comfortable, the church will be providing refreshments and a dedicated warm space indoors throughout the event.
The All Saints’ Eco-Group looks forward to seeing the community come together to help the Green grow.
