Lammas service

Occurring
Sunday 10 August 2025 Sunday at for 1 hour
Venue
Shobrooke Church
Address
Shobrooke Exeter, EX17 1AP, United Kingdom

Come and celebrate the ancient agricultural tradition of Lammas. In Anglo-Saxon England it was also known as, the feast of first fruits, recorded many times in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Loaves were baked from the first of the wheat harvest and were blessed at church. The origin goes way back to Old Testament times when the first harvest grain was blessed and shared.

Come and join us in the Parish church on Sunday 10th August at 11am, bring any loaves you have made. We shall then share with some cheese or maybe jam with a cup of something after the service, some of which will be held in the churchyard where there will be a reminder as we look across to the fields.
