The sun shone brightly for our annual village BBQ on 11 July. Just under 90 locals gathered to enjoy some home cooked food with a wide variety of salads, all provided by the generous people of Charlton. The bar was open from 5pm and did a good trade in refreshing cold drinks. Added entertainment came from the raffle, lawn games and the find a photo competition.

Next came the Auction of Promises. This was our second Auction (the first was in 2023) and was a great success. There were 19 lots available, again all generously donated by local people, ranging from a cream tea in a village garden to a long weekend away in Devon. We are delighted to report that the Auction brought in over a thousand pounds to our Mend the Roof fund, which we hope to use before the winter rains.

Thank you so much to every single one of you who bought a ticket, bought a raffle ticket, bought something in the auction, drank at the bar, provided food or drink, slaved over a very hot BBQ or served on the organising committee. You are all stars!
