Yes indeed, mice have been spotted in St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Dodbrooke! We should like to introduce our new MOUSE TRAIL. 10 wooden mice are hidden around the essential fittings of the church. Sheets at the back of the church will give clues to their hiding places and teach you a bit about the parts of a church in the process. Earn a sticker if you find them all.Our church is open every day so please pop in and you never know, you may catch the mice at play!Fun for all ages.
Ever since a large fruiting body was discovered in the chancel at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Dodbrooke, we have been fundraising to raise the money needed for repairs to stop the water ingress, dry the church and eradicate the fungus. Thanks to people's generosity and the energy and creativity of Chris, our fundraiser who led the campaign and fronted such innovative events as Hats Off, the work has now been COMPLETED and Dodbrooke is once again fully open including the fully repainted and cleaned chancel. We are very grateful to all who contributed or supported one of the fundraising events and we thank the specialist teams of work persons who have brought their expertise to this project.Dodbrooke is open every day so do feel free to drop by this precious, tranquil space - enjoy the peace of the churchyard or sit awhile in the church.
Once again we are delighted to have been able to hold a Christingle Assembly in each of our Primary Schools in December. EVERY child in Kingsbridge Primary and West Alvington C of E Primary was able to make and take home a Christingle. The Christingle comprises an orange with a red ribbon round the middle, four sticks of sweets or dried fruits and a candle on top. Christingle came to us from the Moravian church where it was created as a symbolic representation of God's love for children. It has been adopted by The Childen's Society as their main annual fundraiser. However big or small the gathering, there is always a special moment with an audible 'aah' when the candles are lit.The Christingles are a gift from the three churches to the children of the Mission Community.
