As summer fades and autumn begins, September often feels like a fresh start. Schools return, routines resume, and many people look ahead to a new season of life. It is a month of harvest, reminding us of God's provision and faithfulness throughout the year. Jesus often used harvest imagery when speaking about God's kingdom. He told His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few" (Luke 10:2). Those words still challenge us today. As our communities settle back into regular rhythms, there are many opportunities to share God's love through simple acts of kindness, friendship, and invitation. At St. Luke’s Café Church we are preparing for the new season by using the fruits of the Spirit as a source of worship. Thinking about how Jesus called the children to come to him and showed them gentleness, love and kindness in the face of hostility from the Disciples. These are some of the gifts of the Spirit which also include joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness and self-control. Earlier this year, many of the families planted sunflower seeds and we have displayed some photographs of these in church for everyone to enjoy. A reminder that God’s Spirit is always quietly helping good things grow like our seeds and the gifts that we have been given. Families are being encouraged to reflect on where they see the fruits of the Spirit in our homes, church and community. Mission does not always begin with grand gestures. It can start with a conversation over a cup of tea, an invitation to a church event, or a promise to pray for a neighbour. As we give thanks for the harvest around us, let us also pray for a spiritual harvest in our community. May this new season be one of renewed faith, growing hope, and a willingness to be part of God's work wherever He has placed us.
