Church of England Diocese of Bath & Wells Staplegrove

About Us

We are situated in the north-west corner of Taunton and just beyond the edge of the town. We are part of the Benefice of St. John the Evangelist, Staplegrove with All Saints', Norton Fitzwarren. Our Churches enjoy very good links with Staplegrove Church School and Norton Fitzwarren Church School.

St. John's, Staplegrove was reordered in 2017, when the fixed pews were removed and replaced with oak chairs and movable pews. A beautiful stone floor was laid over underfloor heating and the Victorian tiles relaid in the Chancel. We have a new altar with supports made from the original carved pew ends, which was dedicated by Bishop Peter in September 2018.  The  work has produced a large light (and warm) usable space which we hope will benefit the wider community.

We are now in a Vacancy as our Rector Stephen Kivett has retired . During the Interregnum we have a different pattern of Services at St John’s, there will be an 8am Holy Communion Service each week and a 10.30am Service on alternate weeks. There will also be one 10.30am Service on the first Thursday in the month. There will be no evening worship during the Vacancy.

We will be using a range of retired clergy and lay readers to lead our services.
