Rare "Flying Angel" Artesian Mark
St. Giles boasts a unique feature in its collection of stained glass windows: a rare example of the "Flying Angel" artesian mark. This distinctive mark was used by Millican, Baguley and Atkinson, a firm based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The mark is carefully etched into the glass, serving to identify the firm as the creators of the stained glass window that depicts St. Giles sheltering the doe.
About Millican, Baguley and Atkinson
Millican, Baguley and Atkinson were active in the stained glass industry from around 1939 until the late 1950s. Despite their period of activity, there are very few surviving records of the windows they produced, making the presence of their work at St. Giles particularly significant.
