Rydal Hall: Maundy Thursday morning prayer

Occurring
for 1 hour
Venue
Rydal Hall
Address
Rydal Hall, Rydal, LA22 9LX

Maundy Thursday marks the night of the Last Supper. The word Maundy comes from the Latin for command, which refers to the instructions Jesus gave his disciples at the Last Supper. Jesus commanded that people should love one another and encouraged his disciples to eat bread and wine in his memory after his death. Maundy Thursday is part of Holy Week and is always the last Thursday before Easter, it marks the end of Lent.
At the Last Supper, Jesus blessed bread and wine, and shared them with his disciples. He then washed the feet of his disciples as an act of kindness. Oils to be used in religious ceremonies throughout the coming year are blessed on Maundy Thursday.

St Oswald's Grasmere

A very warm "Welcome!" to St Oswald's Church, Grasmere

We are in the heart of the central Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St Oswald's is a medieval church on a 7th century site - a sacred place of prayer and celebration since the earliest days of christianity in northern Britain. William Wordsworth with his wife Mary and sister Dorothy Wordsworth rest in our churchyard along with their family and villagers.

Locals and visitors "belong" here, both for quiet reflection and the joy of communal worship and music on Sundays and festivals.
