CHURCH IS THE PEOPLE, NOT THE BUILDINGS! FLOODING UPDATE! - LATEST NEWS

Storm Babet caused serious flooding in a few parts of South Wingfield in October. This message is from Churchwarden Mark Irving:

"Once again our church, churchyard and hall at All Saints flooded.  This time (October 2023) it was up to an unprecedented depth of 18" in places.  Damage, repair and drying out times are still being assessed but are likely to take a few months."

At a joint PCC meeting on 22 November with St Mary's Crich, All Saints South Wingfield and Archdeacon Karen, Mark verbally updated us with the latest news.

All the services for the All Saints congregation continue to be held at 11am on Sundays at Zion Methodist Chapel, Manor Road, South Wingfield, thanks to the generous hospitality of the congregation there.  This is likely to continue for some weeks to come as professional cleaners been needed to ensure both the church and the Church Hall are thoroughly and properly clear of all traces of the possibility of sewage. until further notice.

During the week of 20 October this cleaning has been ongoing, so that services can be again resumed in Church when it has dried out.  The church organ is beyond repair unfortunately, as is the organ in the Church hall.  Decisions are yet to be made an organ replacement that can be kept safe from any future flooding.  It now seems very likely that the Church will always be at risk from flooding because of Global warming.  Please pray for wise decision making by the PCC and the Diocese about all of this.

The church hall will be closed for all activities until at least Easter and there are now no toilet facilities at all for All Saints, unless temporary toilets can be brought in.

The PCC emphasises that the Church building in South Wingfield might be closed but the Church is still thriving in the hearts and lives of the Christians there.  Church is PEOPLE and not the buildings!
