Our Church yard is looking truly beautiful at the moment thanks to the team of volunteers who tend to it via Saturday Church. Every week, a team of committed volunteers spend their time on a Saturday morning bedding plants, looking after pots, caring for trees and shrubs and maintaining our church yard. The church yard is a space for reflection and a place of peace; anyone is welcome to spend some time there. The church yard is also tended in a way which promotes our Eco Church principles. We plant trees and shrubs which can provide habitat and shelter for wildlife, we maintain natural meadow areas and we cultivate our plants and shrubs from saplings and cuttings. If you want to join our team of volunteers, pop long to church on a Saturday morning. You can also contact us to find out more.Lord, we thank you for our garden and surrender it to your loving care, let it become a testimony of your goodness, provision and faithfulness. Amen
We have recently been contacted by people wanting to make donations to Holy Trinity. First of all, can we say a huge thank you to anyone who would like to support our mission and ministry. All donations go towards running our various church activities. These include Saturday Church (warm spaces and food bank), Memory Cafe, and the numerous other activities we engage in. Donations also go towards the general running and maintenance of Holy Trinity. If you would like to make a donation in memory of someone or to celebrate a significant life event, you can contact us about making a specific donation to purchase something for the church. One of our parishioners made a donation in memory of their husband last year and contributed towards the flowers for the celebration of marriage which we held in August. You can also make a specific request for your donation to go towards a plant, shrub or tree in our church yard. To make a donation you can come into church and make a plate donation (cash or cheque) at any service or event. You can also donate through parish giving by using the link on this website.https://www.parishgiving.org.uk/donors/find-your-parish/wingate-holy-trinity-wingateAdditionally, you can contact us though Facebook or the Get in Touch section of this website to discuss things further. We are truly thankful for the generosity of our congregation and our wider community and appreciate all donations to Holy Trinity.
It feels as though it has been a long winter and we are all ready to welcome the Spring and give thanks to God for the changing of the seasons and the beauty of our natural world. The Outside Team have been as busy as ever keeping our church grounds up to such a high standard. The team have worked throughout the winter and have co-ordinated their seasonal maintenance while respecting nature, preserving natural habitats and encouraging wildlife in the coldest of months. Spring is the time for planting and growth and the team will be hard at work in the coming month to get our churchyard ready for the season of renewal and bloom. The tireless efforts of the Outside Team are one of the key reasons for Holy Trinity achieving the Eco Church bronze award last year and they are well on the way to helping us to move into the silver category. Last month, Francis and Beryl Drake, who lead and co-ordinate the work of the Outside Team, received recognition and commendation from Durham County Council at the Environment Awards in the category of Volunteer of the Year. We are so proud of the team and very grateful to them for their work at Holy Trinity. As we move through the period of Lent, please keep an eye on our Facebook page which informs you of all of our services and keeps you up to date with all that is happening at Holy Trinity. We are a welcoming church and we extend an invitation for you to join us in worship and prayer at any of our services. We give thanks and praise to God for renewing the seasons and we pray that Spring brings growth in our own faith and relationship to our Father, just as it brings renewal and restoration to all that He has created.
Throughout December we have joined in worship preparing for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. We give thanks to Father Shaun Conlon, Reverand Muriel Peters and our church wardens Jean Hutchinson and Doris Binks who have led our Advent services and inspired us with their sermons, words and prayers. Throughout the month community has been at the heart of everything we do at Holy Trinity. Our Christmas Fayre, held in Wingate Community Centre demonstrated the strong links between the church and the parish, we really do appreciate all of the support shown to us and thank everyone who came along. Wellfield School demonstrated this support with their generous donation to our food bank; it was wonderful to welcome the students to church, and they were an absolute credit to their school and to their families. Our food bank operates on a Saturday morning at Holy Trinity and anyone who needs to can access this. The glad tidings and great joy of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ were celebrated in our Christmas services. We began with our Carols around the village Christmas tree which was our whole community service. Our family service of shepherds and angels on Christmas Eve allowed for the blessing of the crib by Father Shaun who also led our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services of Holy Communion as we gave thanks for the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and reaffirmed the light of faith in our hearts and minds. During December we have remembered in our prayers all those who find Christmas time to be difficult or challenging, whatever the reason. We pray that the light of our Lord shines upon all those who need his love and that his presence brings peace and solace in the new year. May the New Year bring joy, peace and God’s blessing to you and to those you hold dear. Amen
