Harvest festival
11th October at 4.00 pm
Despite the extreme weather hitting the UK this summer, most of us have much to be thankful for. So let us show our gratitude by coming to the service and by bringing beforehand or at the service items that will be given to the Consett Foodbank. They have asked us not to give pasta as they have so much, though pasta sauce is fine. Otherwise, things such as long-life milk, tea bags, tinned goods such as beans and tomatoes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, hygiene products, nappies.

The last coffee morning raised £139.90. Thanks to those who helped in any way. Do come and support the next one; every penny counts!
The Macmillan coffee morning raised £584.92 It was a lovely occasion and thanks to all who helped and who came to support it.
Thanks also to those who helped at the church’s stall in Castleside School as part of the Castleside Village Festival. It was a way of showing solidarity with the village community.
William Tyndale, 6th October
On this day the Church of England celebrates Tyndale’s life and martyrdom. As said in the July newsletter, this year marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of his New Testament, which was the first translation from the original Greek into modern English. The influence on literature and our everyday language of Tyndale’s New Testament and his translation from the original Hebrew of parts of the Old is enormous. It accounts for 80% of the King James Bible and influenced Shakespeare. Tyndale was the first to use words and phrases such as ‘go the second mile’, ‘signs of the times’, ‘bottomless pit’, ‘busybody’, ‘weakling’, ‘scapegoat’, and there are many more. So let us give thanks for Tyndale’s courage and devotion to the gospel.

Well, the courgette scenario is still ongoing though it's slowing down a bit!!!!! I still have quite a few recipes to try (much to Ron's dismay)!!! We have beans now and more, all shapes and sizes!! The beetroot is ongoing also. We have planted Autumn veg, but something has discovered them and found them very tasty!!!! The Christmas tatties are nearly ready to go in and also some onions. It’s all go down at the allotment. Margaret & Ron
Congratulations
Congratulations to Mandy and Ian whose scarecrow, Ark and animals came first in the competition. Many thanks to them for this absolutely splendid creation. They must have put hours of work into creating it all.
Mandy also came 1st with her Victoria Sponge (it was delicious and looked so good), 2nd with her Harry Potter sorting cakes and 3rd with her animal buns;
