It was brilliant. The weather was fine, sunny all day but not too hot; the crowds were out, the Green has never been so crowded; the stalls were constantly busy. The result at £7,381 was a record.The Fête was opened by the delightful Lisa Hogan from 'Clarkson's Farm' and, unexpectedly, her colleague Gerald Cooper. Both spoke warmly of Bledington.As always the bar led the way, with its towering sales, while this year cakes beat the raffle into second place. The four school stalls were particularly strong. But the fun of the day also comes from the myriad of smaller stalls and games (and Laura's Dog Show) whose proceeds ranged from £361 (plants), £359 (books), £303 (jousting) to £62.Thanks to everyone who helped in advance and on the day, those who brought contributions and/or bought other people's contributions, who played the games, ate the ices, drank the drinks. It was a day, one of a series of such days that, hopefully, the children of Bledington will remember with pleasure long into the future.
