Baptisms
Baptism, sometimes called christening, marks the beginning of a person’s journey of faith with God and welcomes them into the life of the Church. Baptism is available for both children and adults.
Preparation will be offered by the Revd Sally Clifton, who will explain what is involved and answer any questions.
Parents are welcome to contact Revd Sally to discuss baptism. There is no charge for a baptism service, although donations are always welcome.
Godparents must be baptised and should, ideally, be confirmed. It is usual to have three godparents, with at least two of the same sex as the child. If you are unsure about who to ask, please speak with us, and we will be happy to advise.
Confirmation
Young people are invited to join our Confirmation Preparation Group - they must be at least 11 years old. In this group, they can explore their understanding of the Christian faith and prepare to make their own step of commitment at our confirmation service. There are also opportunities for adults to prepare for confirmation.
Weddings
We are always delighted when a couple wants to be married in one of our churches and happy to work with them to plan the service - and to think about the meaning of marriage.
To be married in a church, you need to have a qualifying connection to the parish. Please contact the Revd Sally Clifton for further information about how to do this.
If you haven’t a connection to the village, you will need to attend the church for at least 6 months before the wedding.
The banns will be read for three weeks before the wedding in the church, or another church in the parish if no service is being held.
The fees for 2026 are:
Service of Holy Matrimony: £566.00
Reading of Banns of Marriage: £39.00
Total legal costs: £605.00
There are local Fees for organist, bell ringers, choirs, and alike.
If you are not getting married in your own church you must have banns read in your own parish church as well. Cost is £39.00, plus £20 for the legally required certificate
Please talk to Revd Sally Clifton for further information about how to get married in any one of the ten churches in the Woodhall Spa and Bain Valley Group.
Telephone 07949556494 or email Revd Sally on [email protected]
You can also view the Lincoln Diocese website for weddings for further information, or get in touch.
If one (or both) of you have been divorced, please contact Revd Sally.
Funerals/Bereavement
If you live in the parish, it is possible to have a funeral in one of the group churches followed by either a burial or cremation. The funeral director will contact a member of our clergy on your behalf and one of the ministers will visit to advise and discuss the service with the next of kin or person coordinating the funeral.
Book of Remembrance
Some of our churches have a Book of Remembrance where relatives can have the name of their loved one added. We then display the book and also read out names during our group services on the anniversary of their death. Please get in touch if you would like more information or speak with someone at one of our churches.
