DIRECTIONS TO ST BARTHOLOMEW’S CHURCH WEST SCAMMONDEN/DEAN HEAD The address is Church Lane, Dean Head, Barkisland, Halifax HX4 0EA (latitude/ longitude: 53.640916,-1.930749)

Please note that in this very rural area, Sat-Navs can often direct you along some very narrow, winding and steep lanes. In order to avoid this, we recommend that you first set your Sat-Nav for Elland, and only when you reach there reset it for Church Lane, HX4 0EA.

From Leeds and the East (Journey time from junction 24 to church, about 15-20 minutes)

Leave M62 at junction 24. The slip road will take you round onto a dual carriageway and then you approach a roundabout.

Leave M62 at junction 24. The slip road will take you round onto a dual carriageway and then you approach a roundabout. From the roundabout at junction 24 take the second exit A629 signposted to Halifax. Watch your speed down the hill as there are cameras enforcing the 50 mph limit. Take the first exit from this dual carriageway towards Elland and Stainland. At the end of the slip road take the first exit from the roundabout

Go straight through the traffic lights and at the next roundabout turn right. This is the B6114. Follow this road past Morrison’s Supermarket on your right, but then as the road appears to take a hard right turn to cross the river you should bear left – staying on the B6114 signposted to Barkisland - into Saddleworth Road. As you turn into Saddleworth Road you will see an industrial works bridge crossing over the road. Follow this road, but beware it is deceptively narrow in places, and at the crown of the hill (after about half-a-mile) is a somewhat blind junction, but you have priority. Keep straight on for about another half-a-mile, descending down to traffic lights. Go straight on (still B6114, Saddleworth Rd) and after about 3 miles you will come to Barkisland village, with the Post Office on your right. Pass this and continue straight on.

After another mile you will see Ringstone Reservoir on your right (beware the sharp curves) and then climb slightly and then descend to the motorway bridge over the M62. Cross the motorway, and be prepared to turn left; not immediately after the motorway bridge, but pass the large white turbine on your left and after 300 yards or so, straight after the first building on your left, turn immediately left into Church Lane. Beware this is a narrow lane, and not easy to see! About 200 yards along this lane there is a car park on the left , continue carefully down the lane to the church building.
