Weddings

It is your right to be married within your Village/Parish Church, you may be able to be married in other churches but you will have to meet certain requirements. You do not need to be a church member or baptised to be married in church, if you or your family fit any of the following criteria you will be able to be married within the churches in the Parish of Marston Moor without meeting any other requirements.

You can marry in a Church of England church if you can show that one of you:

has at any time lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months, or was baptised (christened) in the parish concerned, or is confirmed and your confirmation was entered in the register of confirmations for a church or chapel in the parish (this will usually be the case if you were prepared for confirmation in the parish), or

has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months

or

That one of your parents, at any time after you were born: has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months, or has regularly gone to normal church services in the parish church for a period of at least 6 months

or

That one of your parents or grandparents: was married in the parish.

If you do not have any of these connections then you will still be able to be married in our churches but you will be asked to make a "connection" with the church, usually by attending a service once a month over 6 months.

Please refer to the Church of England website 'Your Church Wedding' for more information.

A wedding in church usually costs between £525-£700 depending on whether you have organ, bells, heating etc. This compares to a cost of £530-£615 for two registrars to go to a venue or £350 to be married in the Registry Office (costs taken from the local registry office).
