Stella Cobbold

Stella Cobbold has a grave at the front of Belstead Church beside the tomb of her great uncle Peter Burrell, 4th Baron Gwydyr of Stoke Park, Ipswich.

Stella was born in 1882 and married Clement John Cobbold at St Mary at Stoke Church, they had one child Cameron who later went on to become Governor of the Bank of England.

In August 1914 Stella began the first war hospital supply depot something which was speedily copied in other areas and within a week had contrived to get a large number of drugs and dressings to the front line. Many of the largest organizations throughout the country owe their inspiration to meetings addressed by Mrs Cobbold.

In 1918 Stella died suddenly during the 1st World War flu epidemic.
