Getting here

Welcome to the parish church of Marhamchurch: St Marwenne in the Anglican Diocese of Truro and county of Cornwall England.

The traveller  motoring into Western Cornwall along the Atlantic Highway will see, shortly after leaving Bude, a village a mile or so away to the left of the road.  Over the high banked hedges he will catch glimpses of a grassy valley below which there flows a little river: and on the further side a hill-top crowned by a church tower rising amid trees, with houses and cottages clustered around it.  This is Marhamchurch - "Marwenne's Church": the church of our village.

Our patron saint  appears in the story of our village at the end of the fifth century. S. Marwenne is thought to have established her hermitage on the site where the War Memorial now stands, thus initiating the first ecclesiastical settlement in the village to which she gave her name. For more that fourteen and a half centuries a succession of churches has stood on the hill top ; and the present church, itself  is five centuries old.
