What To Expect

Walking into a church for the first time can be scary, but you really need not worry - we're a friendly bunch and there will be nothing weird or unexpected asked of you!

We love having new people join us - you can sit wherever you like, and feel free to join in with as much or as little as you wish. There is no expectation that you should know any of the words, or songs, just come as you are. You'll be able to follow the service on a service sheet or with the words projected on the screens.

Our services tend to last about an hour long, with served after the service, and everyone is welcome to stay around for a chat, or dash off to get the Sunday lunch out of the oven!

Here are some quotes from our congregation about what you might expect:

"We decided to try St Luke's church around 2 years ago when our little one was born. We were initially anxious and thought we wouldn't know what to do but everyone was so friendly and we realised there wasn't anything to do, we can just sit or join in a bit more. The kids LOVE it - I don't worry about them being 'kids' - no one expects them to be silent and they like having a biscuit at end while we have a coffee! We go when we can as family and enjoy having some time out to think about what's really important in life, I'd recommend giving it a try to see how you feel"

"I really enjoy the informality of St Luke’s – we all come just as we are, to gather together to enjoy the company of one another and worship God. I always leave with a sense of family, that we’re all children of God. That’s partly because our age range is so wide – from 0 to 80+. We have all kinds of worship, from quiet and contemplative to all age events with toddlers rushing round – I enjoy it all and love the sense of everyone joined in praising God."

"St Luke's for me is a little gem hidden in the heart of Harrogate. It is a warm and welcoming place where parishioners from all walks of life come together as a family in fellowship."
