Proposals affecting the Mowbray Deanery in the diocese of York

The draft Scheme provides for:

  • the termination of three pluralities in Mowbray Deanery;
  • the dissolution of the parish of Kirby Sigston in the benefice of Northallerton with Kirby Sigston and transfer of its area to the parish of Northallerton and the subsequent alteration of benefice and parish name;
  • the union of the benefice of Brompton with Deighton, the benefice of Rounton (West and East) with Welbury, and the benefice of Osmotherley with Harlsey and Ingleby Arncliffe to create the new benefice of Brompton with Osmotherley (their constituent parishes to remain distinct);
  • the union of the benefice of Leake with Over and Nether Silton and Kepwick, the benefice of Cowesby, the benefice of Kirkby Knowle, the benefice of Felixkirk with Boltby, the benefice of Thirkleby with Kilburn and Bagby, the benefice of Sessay, and the benefice of Topcliffe and Baldersby with Dishforth and Skipton on Swale, and Dalton to create the new benefice of the South Mowbray Rural Parishes (their constituent parishes to remain distinct);

and associated matters.

Anyone may make representations (formal comments) for or against the draft Scheme.

This consultation closes on Monday 8th September 2025.

In order to be considered by the Commissioners, comments must be submitted in writing, either by post or electronically. You can do this in one of two ways:
