Stained Glass Window

According to 'The Tale of Ipstones':

"May 1908

The stained window given by Mr John Birch to the Church of St Mary and St John in memory of his wife was in its place for Easter. It is executed by Morris and is very effective. The central light is Our Lord on the Cross, with two angels on the foot. The side light are single figures St Mary and St John. The background of foliage is very good."

The window is catalogued as being completed in 1908.

It is referred to in "The Stained Glass of William Morris and His Circle" by A. Charles Sewter, 1975 with the following description:

The entry in the Catalogue of Designs, dated 24 February 1908, names the glass-painters as follows: Mary by Crabbe, Christ and Angels by Titcomb,  John by Stokes, scrolls, background and inscription by Watson.

(Note: BJ in the above is abbreviation for Edward Burne-Jones so the donor of the window would have chosen the images from Morris & Co's Catalogue of Designs).
