Maintenance of the Churchyard is an ongoing and expensive cost, to enable us to create an attractive churchyard that is acceptable to relatives and parishioners in Parish area. This enables us to increase the diversity of wildlife, focusing initially on botanical diversity and vegetation structure for varied wildlife habitats and to provide food and shelter for birds, mammals and invertebrates including pollinating insects. We are grateful,to Heathfield and Waldon Parish Council for a grant of £300 and Burwash Parish Council for their generous grant of £1500,
We're looking for a group from across the community to propose and, if wished, implement ideas to make the church building fit for future generations. The challenges are:Accessibility examples: * There are multiple floor levels, which makes use of mobility aids difficult.* There's no obvious place to put a projector screen* We don't have a sign language interpreterComfort examples:* How to make the pews (the community on balance want to keep them!) more comfortable?* Provision of chairs suitable for people with, i.e., back problemsEcological examples:* We currently use gas heating, with a similar bill to a large house for a relatively low number of hours use. * We estimate 50% energy is used to stop freezing and 90% of the rest in heating the fabric and roof space. * We have a large roof for solar energy and some large areas of ground, and the floor of the church, that could be used for heat pump solutions. We have the space to accommodate storage batteries or hot water tanks. But what would work best?We are looking initially for a Group Leader to set this up. A role description can be downloaded below. We will also be looking for Group Members and a description for that role will be added soon.
