About Us

Welcome to St Peters Church website

The church is situated on the edge of the village, has weekly services, and is regularly used for baptisms, weddings, funerals and other special services. Kitchen and toilet facilities are in the attached church centre. There is also a meeting room  available for hire by yourself or a group, please contact our booking secretary telephone number 01603 714392.

We have  a group especially for younger people which meets in church on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

The church  building is usually open from 9am to 3pm GMT and 4pm BST.

The congregation consists of a mixed age group of people from a variety of backgrounds.

You would be most welcome to join us on our journey with Jesus.

9.45 Holy Communion (BCP) Lingwood

6.30 Taize Strumpshaw (There is no morning service in Strumpshaw today). We sing gentle chants a number of times in reflective worship. This is for the entire Benefice – why not give it a try? There will be a sing through at about 6pm with candles lit and silence kept from about 6.20pm.

Monday Prayers: our next meeting is on 12th March at 60 Elm Road, starting at 11am and after prayers we will be having a Lent Lunch, the money raised will be donated to the Leprosy Mission. All are welcome but please ring Sue Wray on 713680 if you can stay for lunch.

Tuesday Strumpshaw Prayers (10am) are at Christine Blowers’ home in March. All welcome.

Ladies Social Group – a date for your diaries – we will meet at the Rectory on Wednesday 21st March 7pm for a Cheese & Wine and to plan future events. All ladies welcome.

Lent Group - Interested in finding out more about the Christian Faith? A series of 5 sessions in Lingwood Church on Thursday evenings. We begin in the church centre at 7pm with coffee & cake & then discuss some of the questions that life & faith raise from 7:30pm. We finish by 9pm. Suitable for those who think they know very little & have lots of questions & for those who think they know a lot & still have lots of questions! Next session Thurs. 8th March on Jesus.

Two people in the Benefice wish to be confirmed & the Lent Group (see above) will be their preparation for the Confirmation service at 8pm on Easter Eve (Sat March 31st). Come to the cathedral and support them. If you are considering confirmation speak to David or Heather today!

The funeral of Reginald Tortice takes place at Hassingham Church on Friday 9th March at 10am

There is no Morning Communion on Maundy Thursday March 29th as we have Holy Communion (with Light Supper) to mark the Last Supper of Jesus with his disciples at 7.45pm in Lingwood Church. The next day Good Friday we have special services at Lingwood (9.45am) and Strumpshaw (11.15am) to mark our Lord’s Passion. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are especially important events to mark together as a church in Holy Week as we approach Easter – do come along if you can. Bible readers are needed for both services please. Speak to Heather.

Lingwood Church has been invited to have a stall at the Village Hall Eggstravanza from 12 noon to 4pm on Easter Monday. Would anyone be willing to share the manning of the stall with Heather & David? We intend to have information about the churches.

Paul Rope is going to take Strumpshaw’s food offerings to the Foodbank after next Sunday 11th March so if you want to bring anything bring it by then to get in the next delivery.

Marie Breame writes for Strumpshaw: "If you wish to donate an Easter Lily in memory of a loved one(s), please print their name(s) on the sheet at the back of church and put your donation in the tin."

The making of posies to give out at the Lingwood and South Burlingham Mothering Sunday services on March 11th will now take place at The Rectory at 10am on Saturday 10th March. All welcome.

And posies for the Strumpshaw Mothering Sunday service will be made at 2pm on Saturday 10th March in Strumpshaw Parish Room. Many hands make light work!

This year we are again taking orders for the Real Easter Egg. Sign-up sheets are in Lingwood and Strumpshaw Churches with all the details of the three different eggs. Orders must be on the sheets by Sunday 11th March. Pay now or later.

The funeral of Edward Dye takes place at Lingwood Church on Friday 16th March at 10am

Lingwood Spring Fair is on Saturday 17th March at 2pm in Lingwood Village Hall. All the usual items for sale and raffle will be needed. If you can help on the day speak to Penny Carter (714482). Please take and display posters.

The funeral of Leonard Goodwin takes place at Lingwood Church on Friday 23rd March at 2pm

Advance notice for walkers: This year we have planned 6 walks and they are on the following dates:

2nd April (Easter Monday), Sat. 12th May, Sat. 16th Jun, Sat. 28th July, Sat. 1st Sept, Sat. 6th October. Do mark these dates in your diary and come along. There will be more detail about each walk nearer the time. Any queries ring Sue Wray 713680.

Quiz & Chips Lingwood Village Hall 7.30pm on Sat April 7th. Tickets £8 per person which includes the cost of Fish and Chips. Quizzing starts at 7pm & teams can be up to a maximum of 6. Tickets from Rob or Penny Webb in Church or call 713380. Tickets also from Lingwood Post Office. Please get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. We were full last year! There are prizes for winners and a raffle. The bar will be open. Please take and put up posters that are at the back of Lingwood Church.

Annual Parish Church Meetings take place in April (South Burlingham 10th Lingwood 11th Strumpshaw, Hassingham & Buckenham 12th). We elect people to various posts such as churchwarden and PCC member. Sign up lists will shortly be at the back of Lingwood and Strumpshaw churches for PCC. Do ask David, or any current PCC member, if you wish to know more. The revision of the electoral roll in readiness for the Annual meetings begins on 11th March 2018 and ends on Thursday 22nd March 2018. There are notices up about this in each church. Speak to Penny Carter re Lingwood, Ann Glover re South Burlingham and Christine Blowers re Strumpshaw and Hassingham.

Cavick String Quartet will be in concert on Fri 18th May at 7:30pm in Lingwood Church. They will be performing a programme including: Haydn Op 54 No 1 in G & Beethoven Op 18 No 1 in F. Oberammergau 2020– David & Heather are planning to take a group on pilgrimage to see the famous Passion Play in August 2020 (it is only performed each decade!). Brochures will become available during March. Let Heather or David know if you would like to see the brochure when it comes out or have any questions at this early stage. Our worship on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday will include music from the Passion Play.
