Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford Walthamstow

St Mary's, Walthamstow

St Mary’s is a diverse and inclusive Christian community of 300+ learning the way of Jesus and growing in love. We are a Centre of Arts, Prayer and Transformation - a church for the whole community where all are welcome, always.

We run confirmation, marriage, baptism and Alpha courses, help people out of debt through our Christians Against Poverty centre, advocate for affordable housing through our partnership with Citizens UK and support the local Night Shelter.

We are also home to the St Mary's Music Hall and the St Mary's Arts Collective. Through our Heritage Lottery-funded 'Creative Church' project, our building will be regenerated in 2020 with a gallery space, cafe and flexible, cathedral-style seating.

Our ancient building is the historic parish church of Walthamstow and people have worshipped here for nearly a thousand years. We meet on Sundays (8 am, 10.30 am) and Wednesdays (7.30pm) as well as throughout the week.

We are part of the Church of England and the Diocese of Chelmsford.

Vespers is 40 minutes of stillness, mindfulness and contemplative prayer - an open environment for people of all backgrounds to explore faith, spirituality or just to find a bit of quiet. Vespers features two periods of silence, two pieces of choral or instrumental music, a short reflection and a contemplative practice to try.
