Future – Wills and LegaciesMaking a Will – Leaving a Legacy of Faith
In his Buildings of England series, the eminent architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner described St James’ Church as “the best Perpendicular work in Colchester.”
With foundations dating back to the 12th century or earlier, St James the Great has stood as a place of Christian witness, prayer, and sacramental grace for over 800 years—serving the people of Colchester through war, reformation, plague, and peace.
Today, we are its stewards. And we want this beautiful and sacred place to continue proclaiming the Gospel long into the future.
That is why we are inviting you to consider leaving a gift in your Will to St James the Great Church.
A legacy gift—whether modest or substantial—can help ensure:
the preservation of our historic building,
the continuation of worship and mission,
the formation of future generations in the Christian faith,
and the hospitality of a parish that welcomes all who seek Christ.
Such a gift is not only an act of generosity—it is a testimony of faith and a lasting expression of love for the Church.
As the Psalmist declares: “One generation shall praise Thy works to another” (Psalm 145:4). By remembering the parish in your Will, you become part of that sacred chain of witness, ensuring that the light of Christ continues to shine from this holy place.
