Our Building
We are famous for our 'Pathfinder' Window, situated above the baptismal font. It is a stained glass window depicting a painting by Ernest Stafford Carlos, the brother of the first vicar of the parish, Rev John Buckler Carlos. It was given by his mother and family in his memory when Ernest was killed in action at the Battle of Messines, which took place near the village of Messines in West Flanders, Belgium, in the First World War, in June 1917. Ernest painted many pictures which are much valued by the Scouting movement, and was a keep Scout leader himself. The stained glass window was made in the William Morris factory in Merton, London SW19, and was unveiled in 1933 when Holy Cross Church was dedicated. Such is the impact of Ernest’s painting, other stained glass incarnations of the work can be found around the country, and across the globe, including: Nottingham, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast, Wales, the Isle of Wight, Canada and New Zealand. People from around the world have also come to visit Holy Cross Church to see the stained glass window for themselves.
Two toilets found in church itself. More are in the hall on the other side of the car park.
