Baptism & Confirmation

We would love to celebrate these important events in Christian life and faith with you.

Baptism (sometimes called 'Christening') is the sacrament in which God adopts us as his children, forgives us our sins, makes us members of the Church and inheritors of the kingdom of God. Often people are baptized when still a baby or small child, but adults can be baptized too!

It is the first step on an amazing journey of faith with God, parents, godparents, friends, family and the whole Church. At St Margaret's, baptisms take place as part of our Sunday morning service.

Confirmation is the rite, closely tied to baptism and following on from it, in which a person expresses a mature commitment to Christ, and receives strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by the Bishop.

Confirmation is appropriate for teenagers and adults, who have already been baptized, and is the normal point at which a person is able to start receiving Holy Communion - though children may be admitted to communion earlier if this is deemed an appropriate step in their journey of faith.
