Join us as we listen to the exciting and intrepid story about a member of The Women's Auxiliary Air Force who stows on board an aircraft bound for Northern Germany as part of Operation Varsity.
On 24 March 1945, Operation Varsity was a successful airborne forces operation launched by Allied troops. Involving more than 16,000 paratroopers and several thousand aircraft, it is the largest airborne operation ever conducted on a single day and in one location. It set out from Essex and Suffolk airfields, with a key departure base being RAF Rivenhall.
