About Us

St George’s Hanworth is a traditional Anglo-catholic parish dedicated to making the Love of Christ known through excellence of worship and active care and concern for others.

What are our serivces like?

Our church services are traditional in style, and are enhanced by carefully planned liturgy, beautiful music, art and visual splendour, all of which help us to pray, to worship, and to express the joy and beauty of the gospel message more fully.

The 10am parish mass is on Sunday mornings, and could be described as joyful, friendly, exciting, cheerful, and uplifiting.

The 8am mass on Sunday mornings is more reflective in nature, and uses the traditional language of the Book of Common Prayer, and could be described as quiet, peacful, calm, and prayerful.

The weekday masses, at 10am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, are simple and straightforward. We sit together near the altar as we celebrate the eucharist. These services could be described as simple, friendly, and communal.

Once a month on Sunday evenings at 6pm we have sung Evensong & Benediction. This traditional service of evensong from the Book of Common Prayer gives us space to reflect on the week that has passed and the week to come. It is followed by Benediction - a form of blessing where we believe that Christ is present with us.

Once a month, we gather together for Holy Hour on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm. This is a time to sit together in stillness and prayer. We noramlly recite prayers like the Rosary, and there is space for people to share their prayer intentions.

What are the people like?

You will find a friendly and caring community of people. We have a busy schedule of social events - summer and Christmas fairs, summer BBQ, river trips, coffee mornings, and the monthly Mens' Club. We have several parish outings and pilgrimages each year - to the Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham, to Alton Abbey, and day trips to country houses and antique fairs.

We love any excuse for a party and all are welcome to join in our generous hospitality!
