Something More housegroup: Our re-scheduled Housegroup this week begins an occasional series on the theme 'They shaped our Church'. Each session will focus on a particular personality who left a lasting mark on our Anglican tradition in our formative years - who they were, what they said or did, how their contribution affects us today. For this first session we'll look at Richard Hooker (1554-1600). Never heard of him? Join us and find out!

Where will we find Wisdom? The first reading at Avranches this Sunday is from The Wisdom of Solomon, one of the books only found in the Greek version of the Old Testament. These books are afforded somewhat less authority, but still offer beautiful Godly Wisdom: Roman Catholics call them 'deuterocanonical' ('second canon'), Anglicans and Lutherans call them 'apocrypha' ('hidden'). If you use a standard Protestant Bible you will not find these books included, so a copy of this Sunday's reading is attached to this mailing.

August is round the corner.... Yes, it's time to send in contributions for the Chaplaincy magazine again! - to Margaret by the end of the week please.

Survey: extreme weather provisions - the results ! Facing yet another heatwave, last week we asked:

In a 'weather emergency' like this weekend, what do you think we should do?

1 Carry on regardless as long as we have somebody local enough to safely take the service.

2 As 1, but in addition provide a service on Zoom (probably in the evening) for those who should not risk 'in person' attendance that Sunday.

3 Cancel the 'in church' service that Sunday at the church where the problem is greatest (can vary with the weather) and move the service online at the normal service time.

Replies were as follows: option 1 - 3, option 2 - 3, option 3 - 3. A handful of further responses said 'it depends', or 'all three are good' or 'we'll leave it to you to decide'!
