Welcome to Cockington Parish Churches - the Church of England Parish of Cockington with Chelston, located in beautiful Torquay. We aim to be a church without walls, but also have three church buildings - St George & St Mary, Cockington; St Matthew's, Chelston; and St Peter's Church Centre, Chelston. The parish includes beaches, a country park, a local shopping centre and, most importantly, lots of houses. One of our churches is 950 years old this year - a chance to celebrate - yet we are not stuck in the past. We focus on community and long to engage more with all our local residents.
Covid-19 (Coronavirus) update 16th May 2020: Some of the measures we put in place to prevent spread of the virus have been superseded by today's announcement from the Prime Minister. To avoid all unnecessary contact, tomorrow's 9.45am Holy Communion at St Peter's has been cancelled. We are currently looking at alternative ways to provide spiritual, pastoral and practical care, and will continue to update here, and on social media.
Safeguarding: The parish of Cockington: St George & St Mary is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Exeter’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
