Prayer, healing and wholeness

What is it that you desire?

We believe in a loving God, who makes all things new, heals the sick, and binds up the broken hearted.  We are at our most whole and well when we are enveloped in the loving arms of God.  God wants us all to be who we have been created to be - that is the definition of healing.  It is holistic and not just about physical healing, but includes our psychological, emotional and spiritual needs.

No one is excluded or outside of God's longing to heal us - it doesn't make any difference if you come to church, or even if you are not sure whether you can believe in God, or if God will accept you.  He always will, and he doesn't attach 'strings' like humans do!

One of Jesus' favourite phrases was "What is it that you desire?" He asked blind Bartimaeus, and the lame man at the pool, and also the two disciples when they followed him home for no obvious reason.  Perhaps even more importantly, he healed when people didn't dare ask. One example is the woman who knew - she just 'knew' - that if she could grasp the hem of his robe as he passed her in the crowd, she would be healed physically and spiritually.  Her type of illness meant she was a social outcast - but all she had to do was reach out and she received wholeness from God.

Anyone can reach out for the hem of God's robe wherever they are, but if you would like particular help and prayer, please do contact us.  There is also a traditional sacrament of healing - prayer and anointing with holy oil - which can be carried out by one of our ordained ministers on request.  If you would like to receive that sacrament, or want to know more, please let us know.

We also have Prayer Request Boards. One is in Cockington Church and another is online, on our Facebook page, where you can add prayer requests in the event comments - but please do not write anything on Facebook which contains personal information about another person or which breaches theirs, or your, privacy. Any prayer requests of a private nature should be direct to Rev Dave the vicar, or to one of our other ordained ministers.

If you would like to light a candle, we have candle-holders and a prayer board at Cockington, which is available for use every day, and also a candle-holder at St Matthew's (available when the church is open).

Please do not hesitate to contact us on either [email protected] or [email protected] if you would like to receive prayer.
