St. Giles Church, Great Orton

Welcome to St. Giles Parish Church

Our Parish Community

A friendly welcome awaits you at St. Giles, the parish church serving the communities of Baldwinholme, Great Orton, Little Orton, Orton Rigg, and Woodhouses. We are proud members of the Solway Deanery, operating within the West Cumbria Archdeaconry. Our church is situated in the village of Great Orton, Cumbria.

Our History

St. Giles was founded in the 11th century, in the year 1098. The church continues to stand today as a testament to our enduring Christian faith and history.

Our Mission and Worship

We are dedicated to loving God and our neighbours through our worship and community life. Our services follow a regular pattern throughout the year, taking place on the second and fourth Sunday of each month.

Safeguarding Commitment

We are firmly committed to the safeguarding of children, young people, and adults. Adhering to the House of Bishops' guidance and policies, we have appointed our own Parish Safeguarding Officer. For further information, please visit our Safeguarding page and our Safeguarding Team Contacts page.

Safeguarding

"Our parish of Great Orton: St Giles is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer (PSO). Our Diocese of Carlisle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO Ann-Marie Pattinson ([email protected])

The Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser is Joanna Van Lachterop and she can be contacted at [email protected]
or at 07458 016884. Joanna’s working days are Monday to Friday.
If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services."
