Dunton - John the Baptist!

Dunton church is dedicated to St Peter. It is thought that was a Victorian change - maybe from an anti-Catholic vicar (?) - from its former St Mary dedication. Perhaps with this intriguing news of the St John the Baptist coin pendant there is a case for a once-and-for-all dedication of Dunton church to him?

P.S. There was formerly a St John the Baptist church in our Upper Wensum Benefice at Pattesley about four miles south of Dunton. That church in its tiny community there (three of four dwellings) became ruined about 300 years ago. Some remains of church wall were incorporated into what is now a private residence.
