We’ve got a wonderful link with St Francis’ Hospital in Katete, Zambia, which provides medical and surgical aid to over 200,000 people, including pregnant women from the surround area who need to arrive weeks ahead of their due date to be in the right place for medical care. We’re holding a fun fundraising afternoon at Wookey Church, and hope that you can come and support this much needed hospital! There’ll be a variety of stalls: bric-a-brac, tombola, and cakes, and hopefully folk music performed by U3A. Plus find out more about Katete too.

Welcome to our page on A Church Near You!

St Matthew's Church is a beautiful church in the village of Wookey, near Wells. We are part of a group of 3 churches and 4 parishes, known as a benefice, which are looked after by Revd Jan Shellard-James.

There are services almost every Sunday, except during some months on the third Sunday of the month. Also if there is a 5th Sunday in a month, a service might take place at a different church in the benefice. There is also a weekly Holy Communion service which is held every Wednesday.
